How the ArcheAge Chronicles class system works: four fixed classes, two weapon trees each, six stats, separate trait points and no 220-class multiclassing.
ArcheAge Chronicles Class System
ArcheAge Chronicles uses four fixed classes — Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Berserker — with two weapons each. You do not combine skillsets into a custom hybrid. Build depth comes from stat points and a separate weapon trait tree.
The most common misunderstanding about ArcheAge Chronicles is that it inherits the original game's 220-class system. It does not. XLGAMES has moved to defined classes with their own weapons, animations and control schemes, and the class reveals describe specific kits rather than a pool of interchangeable skillsets.
The four classes
| Class | Weapons | Identity |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Longsword, Greatsword | Parry duellist or Resolve-based frontline |
| Ranger | Longbow, Hatchet | Ranged precision or mobile lightning melee |
| Mage | Elemental Staff, Thundersword | Elemental chains and magic damage |
| Berserker | Axe and Shield, Warhammer | Initiator, protector, heavy frontline |
Each class has a fixed gender at Early Access. Warrior and Berserker are male; Mage and Ranger are female. XLGAMES plans to add gender selection class by class, starting with a female Warrior in December.
Class versus weapon
The class determines your animation set and available weapon families. The weapon determines your trait tree, and the tree changes skills, not just stats.
A Greatsword Warrior can branch into a damage route that unlocks Armor Break and turns Sunder into Sweeping Slash, hitting twice with a wider cleave. The defensive route adds Pummel Strike, usable while guarding, and grants a shield. A Longsword Warrior instead leans on parry timing, Closing Clash and Bladeburst, with an alternative blood-price branch that spends health and drains it back.
That is why two Warriors can play differently. It is also why the weapons page matters as much as the class pages.

The six stats
Every level gives stat points. One point buys one stat, with no escalating cost.
- Strength — physical attack
- Agility — crit chance and physical attack
- Constitution — HP and crit resistance
- Intelligence — magic attack
- Talent — magic attack and equipment requirements
- Endurance — stamina and defence
The absence of scaling cost means early mistakes are cheap to fix. It does not mean every spread is viable. Physical classes should not split into Intelligence, and magic classes should not chase Strength. Constitution and Endurance are defensive investments you make when a region starts hitting harder.
Trait points are separate
Trait points do not come from leveling. They come from Raeven's Coilstones, which are placed near powerful bosses, hidden in the world, or spawned by quests. Each weapon type has its own trait tree.
This is the real build layer. A player who rushes levels but skips Coilstones will have fewer skill modifications than a player who explores. The leveling guide explains how to fold Coilstone hunting into a normal route.
What the class system is not
It is not the original ArcheAge's 12-skillset system. There are no 220 named combinations, no three-skillset mixing and no classless build crafting. It is also not a job system: you cannot swap from Warrior to Mage on the same character, and no class-change system has been announced.
It is not a trinity-locked dungeon system either. Dungeons support solo or parties of up to four, and XLGAMES has not said a healer or tank is mandatory. Berserker's shield path is the closest thing to a dedicated tank, but it is a class identity, not a queue role.
Respec and build changes
XLGAMES has confirmed that stat points are one-for-one and that trait points come from Coilstones. It has not published a respec price, a respec NPC or a full reset system. Treat any specific respec cost you see on a fan site as unconfirmed until XLGAMES publishes it.
The practical approach is to keep one weapon tree focused until you understand its breakpoints, then branch. Spreading trait points across both weapons early slows the first meaningful skill upgrade.
How to choose within the system
- Pick the class whose defensive tool you will actually use.
- Pick one weapon and finish its early trait branches.
- Put stat points into the damage stat your weapon scales with.
- Add Constitution or Endurance only when a region demands it.
- Collect Coilstones before chasing a second weapon.
The classes guide compares the four kits, and the tier list ranks them for launch.

FAQ
How many classes are in ArcheAge Chronicles?
Four: Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Berserker. Each has two weapons at launch, creating eight playstyles.
Can you multiclass in ArcheAge Chronicles?
No. The game uses fixed classes, not the original ArcheAge's three-skillset combinations. Build depth comes from stats and weapon trait trees.
Are trait points tied to leveling?
No. Trait points come from Raeven's Coilstones, which are found near bosses, in hidden locations or through quests.
Can you respec?
XLGAMES has not published a respec price or system. Stat points are cheap to correct early because one point always buys one stat, but treat full respec claims as unconfirmed.
