ArcheAge Chronicles Races: What Launch Actually Offers

Are there playable races in ArcheAge Chronicles? What character creation confirms, how the old ArcheAge races fit Auroria, and what is still unannounced.

ArcheAge Chronicles Races

The honest answer

ArcheAge Chronicles has not confirmed playable races. Character creation is built around choosing one of four classes and customising appearance. The old ArcheAge races still exist in Auroria's lore, but none has been announced as a selectable player race.

This is the question where fan sites most often invent an answer. Original ArcheAge launched with Nuian, Elf, Firran, Harani, Warborn and Dwarf, each tied to a continent and a story. ArcheAge Chronicles is a different game set in the same world, and XLGAMES has not carried that race system forward in its published material.

What character creation confirms

The official class articles and the demo show a class-first creation flow: choose Warrior, Ranger, Mage or Berserker, then customise the character's appearance. Each class has a fixed gender at Early Access. There is no published race selection step.

That does not prove races will never be added. It does mean no launch page, store description or producer letter promises them.

The old races in the lore

Auroria is the same continent from the original ArcheAge, and its history still includes the familiar cultures:

  • Nuians — human settlers with a strong presence in the western continents
  • Elves — long-lived magic users tied to the forest
  • Firran — feline people with a mobile, hunter culture
  • Harani — desert and trade cultures of the east
  • Warborn — engineered soldiers with a harsh origin
  • Dwarves — engineers and miners

You will meet these cultures as NPCs, factions and story context. Meeting a Firran NPC is not the same as creating a Firran character.

Why the game moved to classes

XLGAMES built ArcheAge Chronicles around class-specific animation sets and cinematic combat. Each class has its own dodge, parry, weapon handling and camera framing. Adding races on top would multiply the animation and armour work again.

The gender rollout already shows how expensive that pipeline is: the female Warrior arrives in December, months after launch, because it requires new models, fits and animations. A full race system would be a much larger undertaking.

Will races be added later?

No announcement exists. XLGAMES has discussed gender options, additional weapons and combat balance as post-launch work. It has not listed playable races as a roadmap item.

Treat "ArcheAge Chronicles races" as a lore question for now, not a character-build question. The launch choice that actually changes your gameplay is class and weapon.

What to choose instead

If you are looking for the old ArcheAge race fantasy, pick the class that matches the culture you liked:

  • Firran hunter → Ranger with Longbow
  • Nuian knight → Warrior with Longsword
  • Elf mage → Mage with Elemental Staff
  • Dwarf engineer → Berserker with Axe and Shield
  • Warborn bruiser → Berserker with Warhammer

That is flavour, not a mechanical race system. The class system page explains why class and weapon are the real build layers.

No announcement exists. Those cultures appear in the world and lore, but not as confirmed player options.
