A launch-week ArcheAge Chronicles classes tier list built from the four official kits, eight weapons and demo impressions, with solo, group and PvP rankings.
ArcheAge Chronicles Classes Tier List
ArcheAge Chronicles has no public win-rate data, no ranked ladder and no level-cap endgame yet. This tier list ranks the four revealed classes by how complete and forgiving their kits look for the November 3 launch, with separate rankings for solo, group and PvP play.
The tier list below uses four inputs: the official class articles, the two weapon paths shown for each class, the progression systems XLGAMES has explained, and hands-on impressions from the October demo. It does not use private damage testing, because that data does not exist in public.
Overall launch tier list
| Tier | Class | Why it lands here |
|---|---|---|
| S | Warrior | Two complete melee paths, a parry window, a blood-price option and the first third weapon in December |
| A | Ranger | Longbow is the cleanest solo kit; Hatchet adds a mobile melee answer |
| A | Berserker | The only class with a dedicated shield path, which makes group content easier to enter |
| B | Mage | High elemental damage, but the reveal material is thinner and the kit looks less forgiving |
This is not a claim that Mage is weak. It is a claim that Mage is the class with the most unknowns going into launch. A class with two revealed weapons and less footage is harder to rank honestly than a class with a clear defensive loop.

Solo PvE ranking
| Tier | Class | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| S | Warrior | Parry, block and a self-sustain blood path cover the mistakes a new player will make |
| S | Ranger | Longbow keeps distance and adds Ice Arrow control; the safest first character |
| A | Berserker | Durable, but the slow Warhammer path punishes bad positioning |
| B | Mage | Strong clear potential, but the demo impressions describe a thin margin for error |
Solo play in ArcheAge Chronicles is mostly questing, discovery and field bosses. A kit that can reset a fight is worth more than a kit with a higher theoretical damage ceiling. Warrior's Longsword path has the most obvious reset tools; Ranger's Longbow has the most obvious distance.
Group PvE ranking
| Tier | Class | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| S | Berserker | Axe and Shield is built to start fights and absorb pressure for allies |
| A | Warrior | Greatsword can frontline, but the class has less explicit ally protection |
| A | Mage | Elemental chains should be valuable in dungeons once players learn the setup |
| B | Ranger | Longbow is excellent against bosses, but Hatchet competes with melee slots |
Dungeons support solo or parties of up to four, and progress persists through disconnects. A four-player group wants at least one class that can hold a boss facing away from the group. Berserker is the obvious candidate; Warrior is the second.
PvP ranking
| Tier | Class | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| S | Ranger | Ranged pressure plus a melee escape path is a strong open-world combination |
| A | Warrior | Parry timing is powerful, but the class has to close distance |
| A | Berserker | Durable and disruptive, though easier to kite than a Ranger |
| B | Mage | Elemental chains need setup; PvP channels reward instant escapes |
PvP is channel-based, not a separate arena queue. Everyone in a PvP channel is attackable except party and guild members, and there are no player-kill rewards at launch. That makes mobility and escape more valuable than kill-farming.
Bossing ranking
| Tier | Class | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| S | Warrior | Parry and guard tools map directly onto telegraphed boss attacks |
| A | Ranger | Longbow can maintain uptime while dodging; Ice Arrow adds control |
| A | Mage | Ranged elemental damage should be strong once the rotation is solved |
| B | Berserker | Warhammer's slow swings are harder to fit into tight damage windows |
Field bosses drop gear, accessories and unique crafting materials, and Hersander's Tower adds a buffed zone boss through the Hereafter Challenge. Reliable damage uptime matters more than burst in those fights.
Why Warrior gets the S tier
Warrior has the most complete information package. XLGAMES has shown both the Longsword and Greatsword paths in detail, including the parry route, the blood-price route, Resolve generation, Final Cleave, Rampage and Warrior's Cry. It also gets the first third weapon, the Gladius, in December.
That combination makes Warrior the lowest-risk launch pick. It is not necessarily the highest-damage class at level cap, because no one knows what level cap looks like yet.
Why Mage is not higher
Mage's official reveal is thinner. The Elemental Staff and Thundersword are confirmed, and elemental chains are the clear identity, but there is less footage of the full kit than Warrior or Ranger received. The demo's Mage impressions were also the most critical: players described hits that felt disconnected and a rotation that had not clicked.
That is a launch-risk ranking, not a permanent verdict. If the Mage's elemental chains scale well with trait points, the class could move up quickly after the first balance patch.
What would change this tier list
- A December balance pass that buffs Mage or changes the Warrior's Gladius
- Discovered trait-tree breakpoints that make one weapon path dominant
- Dungeon compositions that make a dedicated shield class mandatory
- PvP rewards that make kill-farming worthwhile
- A level cap and endgame raid that values different damage profiles
Until then, treat the tiers as a buying guide. The best class page turns the same evidence into recommendations by player type, and the class system page explains why the four classes are not interchangeable.

FAQ
What is the best class in ArcheAge Chronicles?
Warrior is the best launch pick for most players because it has the most complete defensive kit and the first third weapon. Ranger is the best pick if you want ranged solo play.
Is Mage bad in ArcheAge Chronicles?
No public data supports that. Mage has strong elemental damage on paper, but its kit is less documented and demo impressions were mixed, so it carries more launch risk than Warrior or Ranger.
Is this tier list based on damage meters?
No. It is based on official kit reveals, progression systems and demo impressions. There are no public damage meters or win rates before launch.
How many classes are ranked?
Four: Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Berserker. Each has two weapons at launch, so the tier list effectively covers eight playstyles.
